Abstract
Due to the difficulties and limitations associated with experimental blast modeling, the use of numerical simulations is justified for analyzing such phenomena. Mesh-based techniques like the Finite Element Method (FEM), due to the characteristics of explosions such as very high velocity and severe deformations, are inappropriate due to the extreme complexity of the meshes and cause numerical errors. Therefore, meshless methods prove to be more effective for modeling such phenomena. In this paper, an underwater explosion and its effect on a cylindrical metal tube are modeled using a coupling of two methods: smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH), Meshless Method, and finite element, one of the mesh-based methodes. The explosion pressure results in water were validated against empirical relations and another numerical study. The explosion phenomenon was modeled by using meshless method and the metal pipe was modeled using the finite element method and used a LS-Dyna software to modeled them. Ultimately, the analysis of the underwater explosion's impact on the metal pipe in terms of pressure and displacement yielded acceptable results. results shown that Results shown that regions near the explosive charge experience high stress and significant compression, with peak pressure of approximately 295 MPa and compression of 25.8 cm. At locations farther from the charge, peak pressure and compression decrease, reaching 57 MPa at the farthest point, where tensile displacement (1 cm) occurs due to reflected waves.
